The race.

The 44th Annual Milton Optimist Independence Day event on July 4, 2026, in Milton, Wisconsin offers three distance options: a 6.2-mile run, a 3.1-mile walk, and a 1.6-kilometer run. The 6.2-mile run starts at 8:00 am on an out-and-back country road course with rolling hills and three water stations; participants must be at least 13 years old. The 3.1-mile walk begins at 8:00 am on a combination of country roads and the shaded Ice Age trail with one water station; it is non-competitive but may be run. The 1.6-kilometer run starts at 8:05 am on residential streets with a steep downhill finish. Packet pickup and day-of registration occur July 4 from 7:00–7:45 am at Milton High School Event Entrance, with day-of registration costing $20. Age group awards are given for first through fifth place in multiple categories for both the run distances. Proceeds benefit youth-centered school and community projects.
