The race.
Be the One Walk takes place on September 20, 2026, in DeKalb, Illinois, hosted by DeKalb American Legion Post 66. The main route covers 2.2 miles on sidewalks and asphalt pathways, with a 1-mile alternative available. Registration and check-in begin at 9:00 am, followed by a welcome at 10:00 am, with activities concluding by noon. The walk benefits veteran mental health awareness and suicide prevention efforts. Refreshments including coffee, fruit, granola bars, and post-walk pizza and cookies are provided. Participants may carry rocks dedicated to fallen veterans during a closing ceremony, and non-walking activities such as tai chi, chair yoga, and labyrinth meditation are also available.
