About the race.

The Big Sky Marathon takes place July 12, 2026, in Ennis, Montana, organized by the Greater Yellowstone Adventure Series. The full marathon starts at approximately 8,500–8,700 feet elevation on the Gravelly Range Road (near Mile 17 of the Madison Marathon route) and descends roughly 3,600 feet to finish at Varney Bridge over the Madison River. The course features three terrain sections: an initial near-flat section through Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest, a steep switchback descent dropping from 8,500 to 6,000 feet, and a final gradual decline on gravel and pavement to the river finish. A half marathon option starts approximately five miles further down the route and runs 13.1 miles to the same finish. The race includes both full and half marathon distances, allowing participants to run both events over a weekend.
