The race.
The Ely Mountain Trail Race takes place on August 2, 2026, in Shaver Lake, California, featuring two trail distances: an 8.7-mile course with approximately 1,800 feet of elevation gain, including a 1,000-foot climb up Ely Mountain, and a 4.97-mile course with roughly 800 feet of climbing. Both routes start and finish at Balsam Forebay. Finishers receive custom race shirts, medals, and podium awards, with a special King and Queen of the Mountain award for the fastest segment times to the summit. Post-race food and refreshments are provided. The race is capped at 250 participants.
