Galena 5k Stair Challenge 2026

The race.

The Galena 5K Stair Challenge takes place September 12, 2026, in Galena, Illinois, hosted by the Galena Area EMS District, Galena Police Department, and Galena Fire Department. Participants choose between a non-timed 1-lap fun run/walk starting at 9:00 a.m. ($30–$40) or a competitively timed 7-lap stair challenge starting at 9:15 a.m. ($30–$45, capped at 200 athletes). Both distances include a performance-fabric t-shirt and medal. Chip timing uses wave starts every minute; the course closes at noon. Packet pickup occurs Friday, September 11, from 4–7 p.m. at 217 Summit Street, or Saturday morning 8:00–9:00 a.m. at Green Street Plaza. Age divisions range from 14 and under through 70+. Participants are encouraged to fundraise at least $50 for local first responders, with top individual fundraisers receiving prizes. Online registration opens March 20 and closes when capacity fills or September 11 at midnight.
