The Headwaters Relay is a three-day team adventure race covering 211.8 miles through Montana backcountry. Teams of 4 to 10 runners complete legs ranging from 1 to 6 miles, with each runner required to complete at least one leg per day. Exchange points are located by following written descriptions, and teams provide their own support, navigation, and aid. A maximum of 26 teams participate, with field preference given to returning teams. Teams choose their own name and captain, arrange support with up to two vehicles (one high-clearance), and run legs sequentially rather than simultaneously.
