Competitors and their burros tackle two distance options at the Leadville Boomdays International Pack Burro Race on August 9, 2026, in Leadville, Colorado. The long course covers 21 miles with approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain, starting from downtown Leadville and climbing toward Mosquito Pass above 13,000 feet before descending back to the finish. The short course is approximately 6 to 8 miles. Both courses begin on Harrison Avenue and continue into Leadville's mining district on the east side. Participants must manage their burro while carrying traditional mining tools throughout the race, held at high altitude in the heart of Leadville.
