About the race

The race.

The 15th Annual Barnegat Light Ocean Mile Swim takes place on July 25, 2026, in Barnegat Light, New Jersey. Swimmers complete a one-mile course beginning at 30th Street beach and finishing at 16th Street beach, marked with buoys. Three staggered heats accommodate swimmers based on anticipated finish times, with Heat 1 starting first, followed by Heat 2 three minutes later and Heat 3 three minutes after that. Mandatory check-in occurs at 16th Street beach between 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on race day; participants receive a cap, t-shirt, and timing chip. Awards include plaques for top three overall finishers by gender and medals for top three finishers in each of 15 age groups; wetsuits disqualify swimmers from awards. A post-race beach party with refreshments follows the event. Entry is $50; reduced fees of $25 apply to Long Beach Island lifeguards, and Barnegat Light lifeguards enter free.
