The Jay Walkers Challenge is a month-long team-based steps competition held in September, with participants worldwide working together to accumulate 800,000 steps in honor of lives lost to suicide annually. Teams typically consist of 12 members and can be composed of family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors from any location. Participants are encouraged to start conversations about suicide, raise funds for suicide prevention programs, and recruit additional walkers. Free registrations are available for those who need them through a registration request form. Funds raised support evidence-based suicide prevention interventions including Crisis Response Planning training and teacher education programs. Registration takes place online through RunSignUp, where individuals can start or join an existing team.
