About the race

The race.

The Twin Cities Laser Biathlon on August 1, 2026, in Apple Valley, Minnesota, features roller ski racing with integrated laser shooting for high school and college athletes across gender categories. Qualifiers begin at 10 AM in individual time-trial format with 30-second intervals and four prone shooting stages; Finals follow at 12 PM with small group starts of 4–6 athletes racing head-to-head based on qualification times. Course preview and safety briefing run from 8:30–9:30 AM. Race distances range from 4.5 to 7.5 kilometers, with five-shot prone shooting sessions breaking up each lap. Laser rifles are provided by U.S. Biathlon at no cost and remain staged at the range; participants do not carry them. All activities take place at Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center.
