York 38 Special 2026

The race.

The York 38 Special bike race takes place Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Helena, MT, benefiting the volunteer fire department. Three race options are offered: a 38-mile route with Bear Trap and Trout Creek options on gravel and dirt single track; a 76-mile Spirit of 76 route consisting of two loops around Trout Creek; and a 13-mile Lucky 13 family ride featuring a moderate out-and-back route with roughly half paved terrain. All 38-mile and 76-mile riders may start between 6 and 8 am; 13-mile riders start between 9 and 10 am. Six aid stations staffed with volunteers and emergency medical personnel support the longer races, with an additional aid station on the 13-mile route. A virtual race option is available with a deadline of August 14. Placements are awarded in categories including fastest 38-mile time and most elevation gain. All virtual participants receive a swag bag.
