Your selfie and your privacy

How your selfie is used, how to turn matching off, and how to stop messages.

How your selfie is used

Your selfie is used only to find you in race photos. It is never shown to photographers or to other runners.

PodiumBase has two selfie flows:

  • One-time race search: you upload a selfie for a specific race, we compare it against that race's photos with Amazon Rekognition where available, and the uploaded selfie is deleted after processing.
  • Enrolled selfie matching: you separately consent to store a biometric template so future eligible race photos can be matched to you while that consent stays active.

Selfie matching is only available where PodiumBase has a known supported race jurisdiction. If the race is not eligible, PodiumBase falls back to bib-number and timing signals.

Turning selfie matching off

Selfie matching is opt-in. You can turn it off at any time in your privacy settings. Revoking biometric consent records the withdrawal and queues any active enrolled selfie template for deletion. PodiumBase falls back to bib-number matching where selfie matching is not available.

Stopping messages

You can stop all messages at any time by replying STOP in the WhatsApp chat.

Deleting your data

You can request a JSON data export in privacy settings. Account deletion requests are handled by a person while the automated deletion worker is under legal review, so we can verify it is you and apply any required tax, dispute, audit, or safety retention rules. Email privacy@podiumbase.io or use the contact form to start a request.
