The race.

The Heart of a Lion 5K Run/Walk takes place August 23, 2026, at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson, Michigan, starting at 9 a.m. The chip-timed 5K course includes both run and walk divisions with age group categories for runners and walkers, plus overall awards for Open and Masters divisions. Registration costs $30 through August 6 (shirt included), $35 from August 7–22 (shirt while supplies last), or $40 race day. Packet pickup occurs Saturday, August 22, from 3–5 p.m. at the Special Olympics Michigan Area 19 office, with race-day pickup beginning at 7 a.m. All proceeds benefit Jackson Area 19 Special Olympics to fund year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
