About the race
The race.
The SML Turkey Trot takes place November 26, 2026, at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Virginia. Two race options are available: a 1-mile course and a 3.1-mile course, both beginning at 9 a.m. on an asphalt route that accommodates walkers and runners. Registration closes October 31, 2026, and participants who register by that deadline receive a race shirt. Awards are presented starting at 10 a.m., including prizes for top finishers and best dressed turkey family costume. Proceeds benefit Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
