The race.

The Portland Grindfest takes place August 14, 2026, at 6 p.m. on the track at Benson High School in Portland, Oregon. Runners choose from three waves starting at different paces: 9 minutes per mile, 8 minutes per mile, or 7 minutes per mile. The format is a progression run where pace decreases by 20 seconds each mile; participants continue until they can no longer maintain the required pace. The event is held on Benson's 535-meter track, where approximately three laps equal one mile. Proceeds benefit Benson Cross Country, supporting travel costs for end-of-season competitions.
