Creating promo codes for your race
Percent and fixed discounts, usage caps, date windows, and why a code gets rejected.

What kinds of discount can I offer?
Two:
- Percent off, from just above 0 up to 100. A 100% code makes the entry free.
- A fixed amount off, in dollars.
On a percent code you can also set a cap, so "20% off, up to $10" never discounts more than you intended on your most expensive entry.
How do I stop a code being abused?
Four limits, and you can combine them:
- Total uses. The code stops working after N redemptions across everyone.
- Uses per email address.
- Uses per account.
- Minimum spend. The entry has to reach a threshold before the code applies.
For a code you are posting publicly, set a total-use cap. For one you are giving to a club, per-email is usually the right limit.
Can I schedule a code?
Yes. Give it a start time, an end time, or both. Outside that window the code exists but does not apply, which is what you want for a flash sale you set up a week early.
Why is an athlete's code being rejected?
The message they see says which rule they hit:
- We do not recognize it. Codes are per race; one from your other event will not work.
- It is not active yet, or it has expired.
- They have already used it, or it has hit its total cap.
- Their entry is below the minimum spend.
- It does not apply to the distance they picked.
- The entry is already free, so there is nothing to discount.
If a code should work and does not, check the window and the caps first; those account for nearly every report.
Can I turn a code off?
Yes, revoke it. Revoking stops future redemptions and leaves entries already bought with it untouched. There is no way to claw back a discount already given, which is the correct behaviour and the reason to set caps up front.
