About the race
The race.
The American Legion Freedom Run takes place on May 9, 2026, at the Eureka Trail in Athens, Tennessee. Participants can choose from a 5K (3.1 miles), 1-mile run, or a non-running "Sleeping But Supporting" option. The race starts at 9 a.m., with packet pickup available from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. on race day at the Eureka Trailhead parking area, located at 1400 E Madison Avenue. The crushed-stone course follows a former railroad bed. Proceeds benefit American Legion Post #68's programs, including children's patriotism education, veteran assistance, and community initiatives.
