The race.

The Dare to Scare 5K & Sweet Treat Fun Run takes place Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Manteo, North Carolina. The 5K (3.1 miles) begins at 8:00 a.m. at Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese and finishes at Virginia S. Tillett Community Center in Manteo; the 1-mile Fun Run starts after the 5K at the Community Center. Registration fees range from $45 to $55 depending on registration date, with pre-registration by September 14 guaranteeing a long-sleeve shirt. All 5K finishers receive medals; top three male and female finishers receive awards. Fun Run participants receive medals and swag. Check-in and packet pickup occur at Coastal Studies Institute, with day-of packet pickup available at the finish line. Pre-race transportation from the finish to the start is available for participants parking at the Community Center.
