Registering for a race

Joining a waitlist for a sold-out race

How waitlist offers work, the difference between first-come and lottery races, and what to do when an offer arrives.

How do I get on the waitlist?

When a race is full, the register button is replaced by a waitlist option. Joining costs nothing and does not enter you in the race. It puts you in line for a place if one opens up.

How are places offered?

Organizers run one of two policies, and the race page says which:

  • First come, first served. You are queued in the order you joined. When a place opens, the next person in line gets the offer.
  • Lottery. Everyone who joins by the closing date goes into a draw. The list is frozen at the deadline, the draw is run, and offers go out in drawn order. Joining early gives you no advantage in a lottery.

Places open up when someone cancels, defers, or when the organizer raises the cap.

What happens when I get an offer?

You get an email with a link to complete your registration, and the place is held for you while the offer is open. Offers expire. If yours lapses, the place goes to the next person and you do not keep your position in the queue.

Once you accept, you finish registration the normal way: details, then payment.

Will I be charged for joining?

No. You pay only if you accept an offer and complete registration. Sitting on a waitlist never charges your card.

Find races still taking entries in the race directory, and check your offers in your account.
