The race.
The Putnam County Classic "Race the Lake" takes place July 4, 2026, in Mahopac, NY, featuring a 5.3-mile course that circles Lake Mahopac with flat terrain in the first half and hills on the western and northern sections. An 8-mile option is also available. The race starts at 7:00 AM from Croton Falls Road near the old Mahopac Schools Administration building at 179 E. Lake Blvd. Packet pickup runs July 3 from 4–5 PM and race-day registration begins at 6:00 AM. The first 350 registrants receive race shirts, hats, and swag bags; the first 400 finishers receive medals. Overall and age-group winners also earn medals. Two water stations support runners on course. Post-race refreshments include hot egg sandwiches and beverages; runners over 21 receive a free beer from Captain Lawrence Brewery. Proceeds benefit the Mahopac Fire Department.
