About the race
The race.
The Bill Bergan 5K on the Fourth is a hybrid 5K run/walk held June 20–July 4, 2026, benefiting Friendship Ark Homes & Community Services. The in-person race takes place at Ada Hayden Park in Ames, Iowa, with an 8:00 a.m. start on July 4th. All registrations include a race T-shirt; sizes are guaranteed for entries received by June 12, 2026. Packet pickup is available July 2 from 2–5:30 p.m. at Friendship Ark's office (5820 Lincoln Way, Suite 101, Ames) or race morning at 7 a.m. at the park shelter. Participants compete in nine age groups from 9 and under through 70+, with awards for top three finishers in each category and overall male and female winners. A special prize recognizes the most patriotic participant.
