About the race
The race.
Percival's Island Firecracker 5 Mile Race takes place July 4, 2026, in Lynchburg, VA, starting and finishing at Percival's Island Natural Area in downtown Lynchburg. The course follows a flat, paved section of the Blackwater Creek Bikeway along the James River. Registration costs $30 through June 30 and $35 July 1–4, with packet pickup Friday July 3 from noon to 6 p.m. at Riverside Runners or Saturday race morning from 7 to 7:30 a.m. at the start location. Participants must be age 9 or older. Awards go to the top 3 overall finishers by gender, top overall masters finishers by gender, and top 3 finishers in each of 14 age groups, based on chip time; award pickup occurs Tuesday July 7 at Riverside Runners. The event is part of the Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series.
